Acer palmatum Hupp’s dwarf is a unique compact Japanese maple cultivar prized for it’s tight growth habit, small stature and stunning seasonal colour transformations. This dwarf maple features delicate palmate leaves that display rich green hues in spring and summer, transitioning to vibrant oranges and fiery reds in autumn. With a rounded, bushy canopy and intricate branching structure, it is an excellent choice for bonsai enthusiasts, small gardens or as a container plant. The leaves are finely divided and palmate, with a delicate appearance. Each leaf has 5 to 7 pointed lobes with smooth slightly serrated edges. In spring the leaves emerge a bright green with subtle reddish margins. In summer, a deeper rich green. The striking orange and crimson hues of autumn make this dwarf tree stand out in any garden. Nice pink colour on new growing tips. New growth flushes are a pink red over the rich green background canopy. The vigorous tree is rounded dense, with compact structure with tightly layering habit with twisted/wrinkled leaves that rarely exceeds 1,2 meters in height and width. The bark is smooth light grey. The canopy is a graceful low mounding silhouette. Prefers partial shade but is sun tolerant in a moist well drained acidic soil. Minimal pruning is needed as the tree naturally maintains its rounded form making it a low maintenance visually striking maple discovered by Barbara Hupp and propagated by Mr Vertrees in the 70’s 80’s
